"Your instructors tell me you're willing to take two hits to land one of your own."
"Seems to work out in my favor most of the time," replied Rushdown.
"'Most of the time' isn't good enough. In our line of work, one hit can mean death. Our enemies won't be using stun guns and training weapons."
"Neither will I."
"Look, just...try and be a bit more tactical and take less risks on the battlefield. You may be in command someday, would you let two of your men die to kill one of the enemy?"
"Of course not," said Rushdown, "But that's not the point."
"It's exactly the point. The way you do one thing is the way you do everything."
"Fine, I'll try and...be more tactical."

Rushdown returns to the Seventh Son and heads to the medical bay to get his wounds seen to.

Dr. Sloane treats Rushdown and says "Captain, I have an issue I'd like to look into if we can. An old colleague of mine is working in this sector at a remote Minami research station. I sent a courier telling them I'm in the sector, but I haven't heard back - I'm worried that something may have happened to them. If we're in the area, could we maybe look into it?"
"If it's Minami then I suppose we'd better take a look," says Rushdown.

When he leaves his ready room, there's a message from Gray waiting for him - a murder on Gallows is threatening to spark a gang war. The gangs are asking for the Red Suns' help solving the murder before tensions boil over. He replies, simply, 'On it', and has the crew prepare for departure.

The ship docks at Gallows, and Rushdown heads to the Wessex Saloon, Captain Redblood's base of operations. This time, the tone is very different. All the customers are gone, and the walls are lined with armed guards. He heads up to Redblood's office, and enters.
"I'm here about the murder," says Rushdown.
"And a good thing too, the whole station's on edge and that's bad for business. A few days ago, one of my lads was found dead in Inferno's territory. As far as I know, he had no reason to be there."
"Name? Enemies? Witnesses?"

"His name was Callsign(37)Fixer. He flew alone in a multipurpose ship, last time it came in with blast marks all over it - we all figured one of his marks decided to fight instead of surrender. He refused to talk about it, said he'd sort it. There are no witnesses that we know of."
"Ok, I vow to get to the bottom of his death, or at least get close enough to stop a gang war," says Rushdown.

"I'll need to inspect the body, the ship, and the crimescene."
"He's already been given a space burial, and the ship has been overhauled and sold."
"Already?"
"We're not all that sentimental here, lad."
"Autopsy report?"
"Don't have one."
"Okay then, the crimescene? And who bought the ship?"
"You'll have to speak to Inferno about the crimescene. And some Ironsail bought the ship, I don't know who."
"I'll be back when I know more," says Rushdown.
An hour later, Rushdown is at the crimescene with the Flames member who found the body, with Inferno's blessing. It's an alleyway in the middle of the residential district.
"And he was just lying here, with his neck broken?" asks Rushdown.
"Yeah. Whoever took him out was powerful, to be able to snap a neck like that."
"Hmm. I'm going to take a look around."
Gather Information(Wits)—9 vs 3|8 Momentum:5 → 7
Looking at the position of the body and the nature of the killing blow, Rushdown has an idea. He clambers up a fire escape to the roof of the nearest building, and notices signs of a disturbance - a potted plant has been knocked over, a railing is bent. The damage creates a trail, heading across the rooftops.
"He didn't have his neck snapped by a killer - he fell or was thrown off the roof by someone who was chasing him," says Rushdown to himself.
13 - Solve Fixer's murder +1 (3/10)
Rushdown follows the trail, which leads back into Redblood's territory, to the roof of a tavern. Rushdown goes down the stairs and into the bar - he gets a strange look from the barman as he exits the staff-only area. He walks up to the barman and says "I'm working for Redblood. Did Fixer use to come in here?"
"Yeah, from time to time."
"How about the night of his death?"
"Yeah he was in here earlier in the night, but he suddenly disappeared. I never thought anything of it, but then he turned up dead."
"Did anything else stand out about that night?"
"Some Ironsails were in here, drinking. They usually stick to their own bars. They haven't been back since."
"How many?"
"Three or four."
"Thanks, you've been a big help," says Rushdown.
He leaves the bar and heads to the Ironsail bar in the Ironsail quarter. He finds Wolfric sitting in the bar and sits down across from him. "I'm looking for someone," he says.
"Forget it," says Wolfric.
"I just want to know who bought a new ship recently, that's all."

"I'm not going to talk to an outsider about Ironsail matters," says Wolfric.
"I'll find out some other way," says Rushdown.
"I don't doubt it. But you'll get nothing from me."
Rushdown leaves, and goes to the shipyard. He finds the tech who worked on Fixer's ship.
"I'm looking for Fixer's killer. You worked on his ship. What can you tell me about it?"
"Most of the damage was to the rear of the ship. He might have acted like he got into some big fight, but the blast marks don't lie - he was running from something."
"And who bought the ship?"
Gather Information(Wits)—8 vs 4|3
"Some Ironsail fella by the name of Leonid. He snapped it up before I'd even finished working on it."
"Where's the ship now?"
"Either docked or Leonid took it out somewhere."
Rushdown heads to the spaceport and checks the ship registry.
Is the ship docked? 50/50(46)Yes
The ship is still docked at Gallows. Rushdown makes his way to the ship and hails it from his communicator.
"Who are you, and what do you want?" comes the reply.
"I'm Captain Rushdown, looking for Leonid."
"Captain Leonid. And you didn't tell me what you want."
"Well, captain, as I'm sure you're aware there's been a murder on Gallows and I'm looking into it. This is the victim's ship, and I want to take a look at the ship's log to see if there are any clues in there."
"This is my ship now, and I don't want you poking your nose into my business. Go away."
"So you want me to go back to Redblood and say you're blocking the investigation?"

A recessed gun turret pops out of the ship wall and points at Rushdown.
"Tell him what you like, I'm leaving," says Leonid. "Step back or you're a dead man."
Rushdown steps away, and the ship begins to undock from the station. Rushdown sprints back to the Seventh Sun and says "Take off, now."
"But sir, not all the crew are aboard."
"We'll be back for them, this is urgent."
"Yes, sir."
The ship undocks and follows Leonid's ship, which blinks into FTL.
"Any way to tell where they went?" asks Rushdown.
"Based on their bearing, there's only a few places they could be going," says Eyeball.
"Let's hunt them down then," says Rushdown.

"I'll tell you what I know if you promise to let me go. And deliver something to the Ironsails for me."
"Depends what you want me to deliver, but sure."
"Ok, here's what happened. Fixer stole our chief's black iron dagger. They had some falling out about a job, and Fixer took the dagger as leverage. The chief gave me the job of getting it back."
"And killing him?"
"No, it wasn't like that. I got a gang together and went to that tavern he always drinks at, to beat the dagger out of him if necessary. He saw us and bolted, and I chased after him. We ended up on the rooftops. He tried to make a jump, and next thing I knew I was looking down at his body. We went to his place and turned it over, but no dagger. So we figured it was on the ship. And it was. It was in a hidden compartment on the bridge, took me two days to find it. Just as I did, you showed up."

Leonid's ship lands in the hangar bay and he hands the dagger to Rushdown, then is escorted to the brig by the crew.

"Leonid. He's In my brig, he wants to turn himself in. Figures the Ironbloods will take the blame if he doesn't."
"That's a tricky one. There are more and more Ironbloods aboard Gallows these days, but my lads are going to want some kind of retribution. That spells trouble whatever we do with him. We might even have to have a Fair Trial. We haven't had one of those in years."
"Politics is out of my league, but I'll arrange the prisoner transfer," says Rushdown.
