Vega Khan - Information Broker
Backstory
Backstory Prompts(26)You are running from a criminal past
Julius grew up impoverished in a slum on Taraxus, making ends meet by conning, stealing, and lying his way through life. In his pre-teens Julius managed to finesse his way into working as an assistant for Vega Khan, a local information broker. Thanks to the access given to him to complete his work, Julius finally had access to a major info-archive. Wasting no time, Julius covertly spent his nights and free time between jobs searching the database and educating himself as best as he could. A favorite topic of his were old entertainment materials brought over from the time before humanity had made its exodus to The Forge. These serials were full of daring heroes, bold plans, and conniving rogues, and Julius loved them more than anything else even as he quietly helped gather blackmail material, surveillance data, and strategic weaknesses for his boss.
One fateful day, some local toughs decided to extort his employer for protection. Seeing this, Julius jumped into action and stood up to them. This was met with outright laughter and no small amount of bemusement, but one of the toughs took a liking to him and arranged an alternative payment with the information broker. Before he knew it Julius was somehow up working for an up-and-coming slum lord with ties to the criminal underworld by the name of Nix Cragor.
Nix was a cruel man, often inflicting pain on the helpless just to feel powerful. As a result while he was being housed and fed better than his time on the streets Julius often dreamed of escaping his predicament. After a prolonged period in Cragor's employ -outlasting even the same toughs who recruited him- Julius managed to take advantage of some local unrest to steal one of the Cragor's ships, a luxury tour vessel called the Yonder Star, and escape to the stars. Once safely out of Taraxus' orbit, Julius reinvented himself almost as quickly as he rechristened his commandeered ship The Silver Rose after an old serial he enjoyed.
Free at last to chart his own course, Julius eagerly sets course for fortune and glory.
