The upstart pretender of Patrocian nations to some, a much needed challenge of the status quo to others. The Vitan Federation is a collection of colonies turned city-states who rebelled against their founding nations and the principles of their governance to create their own system, a system based off of equality and self determination, off of common good and mutual benefit. It’s popular opinion that the creation of the federation was only possible due to a rare alignment of circumstances that meant there were few soldiers loyal to the founding nations in the new world, but plenty of settlers who wanted to escape the old ways and make a better life.
Truely, if the federation falls we may never see another experiment in governance on this scale.
Regardless of personal opinion, the Vitan Federation is in a very precarious position. It currently has no trading partners or allies in the old world, and is only able to sustain itself due to having the best lands of the new world and the only major fortifications and military established there. It remains to be seen what the Federation can do, but one thing is certain right now, they’ll fight to the last to protect their independence and ensure lasting dominion over the new world.
The Vitan Federation is led by representatives from among each of the major settlements and city states working together in a congress. These representatives voted a leader from among them to represent them to other nations. His name is Nate Coville, and he’s done more than most to unify the people of the federation with his speeches to leaders that emphasize the need for cohesion and cooperation and the establishing of strong, well-trained local militias. He’s also considered a charismatic leader and brilliant strategist. Under his leadership the number of bandits and beasts terrorizing the new world has been brought somewhat under control and the Federation as a whole is much more ready for a prepared offensive from the old world nations, which feels all but inevitable.
Much remains to be seen of the future of the Federation, but you can be sure that you’ll find plenty of adventure and/or riches there if you can manage to survive its many challenges.
